Authors: Jerry Jankowski and Grant Kessler
Average review score:

Good Stuff
This book featured some great pictures. As a vintage advertisement collector, I saw some familiar brand names and also a few new brands. This book was very well assimilated. The photographs were very well taken and the text was very well written. Congratulations to the author (Jerry Jankowski) and the photographer (Grant Kessler) for such a great book.

A Short History of Laos: The Land in Between (A Short History of Asia series)
Published in Paperback by Allen & Unwin (01 May, 2003)
Authors: Grant Evans and Milton Osborne
Average review score:

Comprehensive, insightful, culturally-sensitive
For a newcomer to Laos, Dr. Evans's volume would seem an excellent introduction to its history, politics and culture. For someone like myself, who had his own intense introduction to Laos in the late 60s and looks forward to a return, the book is an insightful refresher and update. It has helped me put my own experience in context and rethink the Laos I once thought I knew. This short history is thoughtful, well-written, and largely devoid of moral judgments.

The subtitle "The Land in Between" sums up an unfortunate reality -- for much of its history Laos has been caught between more powerful neighbors and sometimes their even more powerful patrons. But Evans does not stop with such a facile explanation of the Laos that has emerged. I particularly appreciate his continuing emphasis on the deep and enduring cultural roots of the peoples who inhabit Laos -- and the interplay among them.

With so many Western writers and readers still caught up in the battles that we fought in Laos in the 60s and 70s, Evans's book is a refreshing reminder that Laos merits attention -- indeed fascination -- in its own right.

Sid!: The Sports Legends, the Inside Scoops, and the Close Personal Friends
Published in Hardcover by Voyageur Press (August, 1997)
Authors: Sid Hartman, Patrick Reusse, and Bud Grant
Average review score:

Love him or not, this book is a must read for MN sports fans
Sid's book is a fantastic ride through Minnesota sports history. I picked up the book a true Sid Hartman sceptic. Come on, does he really know all these people? I won't give it all away, but Sid is the real-deal Minnesota sports fan. A true Minnesota legend. The many tales of Bud Grant, the Gophers, the Vikings, the Millers, his role in the Minneapolis Lakers, the Twins, and yes, Bob Knight keep you both entertained and laughing from start to finish. Read this book and you will know a true hometown fan. I only wish Sid liked hockey a little more. Love him or not, this book is a must read for any Minnesota sports fan, and makes a great gift to those no longer living in Minnesota, like me. Thanks Demps! Another must read for Twins fans is "Calvin: The Last Dinosaur," author unknown.

The Signature of God: Documented Evidence That Proves Beyond Doubt the Bible is the Inspired Word of God
Published in Audio Cassette by W Publishing Group (September, 1998)
Author: Grant R. Jeffrey

the signature of god
It is revealing. The secular world has tried many times to prove the bible was wrong but only to conclude that the historical facts of the bible were right.

So Moses Was Born
Published in Hardcover by Ayer Co Pub (01 January, 1980)
Author: Joan Marshall Grant
Average review score:

historical fiction - Egyptian view of the birth of Moses
Whether historical fiction, or the biography of a previous life (as claimed by the author), this book is well written. It describes the life of Pharoh and the politics of the Egyptian Court just prior to the birth of Moses. This is an entirely different account of Moses' birth than the one we are accustomed to reading. It is most entertaining and quite believable. I enjoyed the book very much.

The Social Worker's Internet Handbook
Published in Paperback by White Hat Communications (01 August, 1998)
Authors: Gary B. Grant and Linda M. Grobman
Average review score:

A Great Starting Point
This book is the best of its kind for social workers--indeed any mental health professional or community organizer--on using the internet for professional and social change purposes. The URLs are OK--basically well chosen but too few and inevitably dated--like every other internet guidebook! But the overview is very clear and the applicationsections are outstanding! The best of its kind for personal learning or teaching purposes. [I don't know Grant or Grobman -- but look forward to meeting them!]

From NSFRE- Golden Gate Chapter Newsletter

"Biblio Tech" by Skip Henderson

"Use Alan -

You're planning a gala. The Chair has been selected. You want to establish a meaningful bond early in the process. Here's what you do. Buy an inexpensive brass trophy plaque. Engrave it with the Chair's name and proper motivational sentiments. Glue the plaque on a copy of "Special Events - Proven Strategies for Nonprofit Fund Raising." Present the book to the Chair and the bonding is complete. "Special Events" by Alan Wendroff, published by John Wiley & Sons, 1999, $29.00, provides the answers to what appear to be any questions that might arise in your event planning and management. The catch phrase, tossed out when any problem or question arises, will become the event committee's password

Use Alan.

"Special Events" is structured around four key special event elements; goals, planning, organization, and administration. Each element is analyzed with strategies and worksheets guiding organizational decisions. If you want to know how to clarify an event's objectives, estimate attendance, market the event, recruit volunteers, manage with only one committee meeting (!), even properly assign seating -

Use Alan.

"Special Events" comes with a disk providing work sheets and checklists you can adapt to your particular event's style and scope. These utilitarian tools complement Wendroff's all-inclusive organizational tool, the "Master Event Timetable." As questions arise and problems occur you won't be bothered. You will be remembered fondly as the Chair gratefully reflects on the plague and reaches to -

Use Alan."

The Spider # 39 : Reign of the Snake Men
Published in Paperback by Pulp Adventures, Inc. (31 October, 2000)
Author: Grant Stockbridge
Average review score:

Panic on Fifth Avenue!
The SPIDER fights bad guys. Real bad guys. No had-a-difficult-childhood bad guys. No want-to-steal-lots-of-dough-and-live-on-easy-street bad guys. He fights guys like th Living Pharoah, who comes up with a plan to recruit an army of lepers, and have them invade a fashionable Fifth Avenue department store and infect hundreds of innocent women shoppers with the dread disease, thus bringing New York City to its knees.

This is the fourth and final installment of the original "mini-series", but like the previous stories, it well stands on its own (and it is NOT a let-down, despite what buzz you may have heard). Just pure action-adventure, with The SPIDER saving the day.

Included are the ordiginal cover, the original interior illustrations, and the original stories from the back of the old pulp; the type has been reset for clarity.

The Spider #38 : City Of Dreadful Night
Published in Paperback by Pulp Adventures, Inc. (22 June, 2000)
Authors: Nick Carr, Grant Stockbridge, and John F. Gould
Average review score:

The SPIDER is Doomed!
Things look bad for Richard Wentworth. The Living Pharaoh, Tang-akhmut, controls the police force. Wentworth's millions are gone, his best friend is accused of murder, his trusted servant is tortured, his girl friend is kidnapped, and there's a $100,000 dead-or-alive price on his head. The SPIDER is about as popular in New York City as John Rocker.

But this is just a normal day at the office for Richard Wentworth. As the SPIDER, he naturally rises magnificently to the occasion. He struggles mightily, and with the help of some unlikely allies, saves the day. In a pulp series known for slam-bang action, this story stands out -- the entire adventure takes place in a single "dreadful" night.

"City of Dreadful Night" is part of the SPIDER "Living Pharaoh" mini-series, and it marks the SPIDER debut of author Emile C. Tepperman, who took over writing the series in mid-cliffhanger.

This is the series that raised the bar for pulp fiction reprints -- a quality bound publication, with the original cover, interior art, and pulp short stories featured in the November, 1936 issue of THE SPIDER.
